Why I Hate being your Personal Trainer
I have been in the fitness industry for over 10 years now. I love it. Helping people lose weight is definitely my passion. I have basically done it all, commercial gym, private gym, running my business, creating new fitness business, sports performance, and now I have branched online to help ever more people.
Helping hundreds and hundreds of people lose weight truly keeps me going. YOU are the reason I am still in this business. However, YOU are ALSO the reason I think about leaving it all behind .
The one thing I have noticed, y’all are ALL the SAME! Weight loss and workouts are hard, I get it. BUT I want to share something’s I really hate about being your trainer.
STOP, please STOP with the bullshit excuses
I am not saying your excuses means you are lying to me. When I ask, how did you do last week on our eating plan? I don’t want to hear all the reasons why you ate shit all week-long. OR I don’t want to hear a story about why your life is hard now or why you are soooo busy. We are all busy. I never expect perfection from my clients, I bet your trainer is the same way. I DO expect progress. I expect honesty. Do you know how i know you are progressing? Your measurements. If you want to help yourself out and defeat the psychology of weight loss, then say I wasn’t that great But I am trying and will get better. That is music to my ears. That’s all I want
You say,”Well you are wrong because….
- I read this in a magazine
- Dr. oz says
- My friends trainer says
- This is how it’s always been
- But my friend lost weight by doing this instead
Stop just stop. The worst thing you can do is challenge someone who is highly educated and specialized in ANY area. My specialty is weight loss. When I write any article, I use only sources you will find in research articles. I love to research. It’s how I learn and get better at my craft, not to mention, help you. I don’t always argue or say I am right. If I do, there is probably a research paper or textbook sitting next to me to prove my point. If I do not know an answers, I usually say, I am not sure about that let me do some research and get back to you.
We are in a time where people think if they lost weight, they KNOW everything about it. Ummm…. hey you don’t. I have yet to run into a person or client who is right about diets or workouts. If you think you know something about the body and weight loss, start with learning about the Krebs cycle and get back to me. That should give you a taste of how in-depth the physiology of the body and weight loss.
You DON’T Listen!
My diet and workout plans are perfectly laid out and easy to read. Now, granted not everyone is the same I do change some things up for everyone. If I change your workout, because you are at a weight loss and chose not to do it! Then why the hell are you wasting my time. There is a rhyme and reason for everything i tell you. I DO not like to waste my time nor your money. If you don’t want to listen to what I have to say, then you clearly do not want my help.
My biggest pet peeve is social media, if you are posting pictures of eating cake or pizza after we JUST discussed what you need to be eating. It is the biggest slap in the face.
You don’t celebrate your small victories
Do you know how hard it is to lose weight? Do you know the energy substrate that needs to happen to get your body into fat burning mode? When I ask, how much weight did you lose or inches? You say, “only 1 or 2 lbs or 2 inches.” That is a freaking great thing to celebrate get excited. If you lost one pound a week for 20 weeks, that ‘s 20 lbs. Which is freaking incredible. If you do not celebrate your small victories, you will be more likely to give up.
On that idea, let’s think about food intake. Some goals are not measured. If you have drunk diet coke for 35 years and went a week without it, AWESOME! You just deprived your body of a shit product that you have used for years that’s amazing
Let me be clear. If you think this article is about you, it probably is. It is also about everyone else in the world trying to lose weight, because everyone is the same. Losing weight is a process, it is a HARD process. Give yourself some slack and just work on your weaknesses. Don’t try to bullshit me, I know when you are. I have been in the field long enough to know what is really going on. The bottom line is I am here to help you, so my passion from this article only comes from the will to help you lose weight. As personal trainers get frustrated, we are just here to help you succeed.
