How to get over Gymtimidation?
Believe it or not fear of the gym is pretty common. I imagine if you are reading this, you also have some fear of going to the gym. Let’s break it down
Fear #1 – Muscle head, weight pushing guys
You are afraid of the beef cake’s you see at the gym. They obviously know what they are doing right? Are you afraid they are going to judge you for not knowing it all? Chances are these guys don’t even notice you are there. Not for the reason you think. They are so into their own workouts they hardly notice anyone around them.
Here is how to overcome that fear: Go up to just one guy and ask for help. Ask them if they know any good ab exercises or where a good leg machine is. I am willing to bet not only will they help you, they will probably point you in the right direction. Now introduce yourself say you are new at this and I bet when he sees you next he will be willing to help you out anyway he can. The best way to over come fear is to face it.
Fear #2 I don’t know how to use the equipment
This is totally fine, half of the people in the gym are right there with you. Only trainers and experience gym goers really know what to do. What exercises work the back? what equipment focuses on the legs? You walk into a gym and there is hundreds of equipment. How do you learn it all?
Answer: Start by just using the machines. They all have very descriptive pictures on what muscles this works and how to use the equipment itself. Get comfortable and go through all the body parts. When you are ready exchange those exercises with ones using only dumbbells or the cables you see.
Fear #3 I don’t like the way I look
You are in good company because so does 100% of the people who are in there. That is one of the main reasons they are there. To make their body look better. Have you ever seen the Kevin Hart stand up where he is at the gym. He looks at this guy with muscles on muscles and said, ‘Dude, why are you still here? It’s it. You won. You got em all. Why you still here?” Believe it or not even people who are lean don’t like the way they look.
How to over come that: Wear clothes that YOU feel comfortable in. Wear something that gives you confidence and power. Each day walk in that gym feeling your best, and just keep working on that confidence. Soon enough the lbs will come off and you will be getting more confidence! Just keep pushing 🙂 Don’t forget that after picture is coming 🙂
Fear #4 I am too over weight to go to the gym
First, congrats I admire the way you are taking control of your health. That’s what it is all about right, being healthy. Honestly, when I see someone who is really over weight at the gym, I just want to go hug them and say YOU GOT THIS! However, I don’t want to freak them out.
Answer: Start losing weight on your own, eat well, start by doing walks or working out at home with Daily burn (30 days free click here). Once you feel you are ready to start the gym then do it! Remember why you started your journey in the first place, to lose weight or to regain your health. As long as you keep moving forward you will get there.
Fear #5 Shy, Introverted, don’t like to be around a lot of people
Introvert here! Hi! The gym is my me time, it may sound weird but when I step foot in that gym, I feel like I am the only one there. I don’t focus on the crowds, I just put on my headphones and listen to music. Have you ever been to the gym right after new years? I get it, SO many people.
Answer: There is no rule that you have to talk to people at the gym. So just be by yourself, in your thoughts and focusing on your workouts. Workout during the less peak times. which tend to be 5am- 8am, 2pm-4pm, and after 7.
I really like working out at them gym. I always have but I get it sometimes it can be scary at first. But isn’t all beginnings a little scary at first. There is no need to be intimidated by a place that is trying to help your health. Don’t be afraid to ask the staff or trainers for help that is what they are there for. I really like 24 hour fitness gyms. They all have good personalities and are more outgoing than some gyms. Click here for a free pass
