Keeping your diet on track while traveling may be hard, but if you are prepared can be an easy thing to do. You have worked so hard on losing the weight why ruin it because you have to travel for work or other required travel. These days there so so many healthy alternatives in the world today, ruining a diet on the road is now just an excuse. Here are some rules I use when on a diet and traveling:
DO NOT order a super ,vente sugar mocha latte
DO opt for a plain black coffee, use a 1/2 tsp of honey if you need the sweet factor
DO NOT order high calorie breakfast foods, i.e. breakfast sandwiches
DO opt for Almonds, and some fruit or a protein drink, they are everywhere these days.
DO research healthy restaurants for the city you are traveling to, so that you know what places have good food choices for your diet.
If options are low and you have to eat fast food, watch your portion sizes, watch your calories. if you don’t know your portion sizes get on a program that teaches you immediately, so that when you travel you can eyeball it.
DO find a grocery store close and stock up on healthy snacks. For example, Bags of veggies, fruit, nuts and greek yogurt are your best choices.
DO eat the complimentary breakfast, another meal you dont have to think about.
DO NOT eat the waffles with syrup , a side of pancakes and lucky charms with a bagel and cream cheese.
OPTIMAL BREAKFAST: 2 eggs, 1/2 cup oatmeal, OR a piece of toast OR a piece of fruit.
Preparing for the day: Being prepared for your business day is the best thing you can do to stay on track.
DO find a good meal replacement, these are the easiest things for snacks. (ask me if you don’t know a good one yet.)
DO pack other snacks nuts, fruits and pre-made veggie snacks are optimal.
DO NOT GIVE UP 🙂
DO order a-la-cart, “Instead of this creamy, buttery parmesean chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy, and mac and cheese, May i just order Blackened chicken and a side of veggies.” DONE I have worked in restaurants in the past this is ok to order, and it still tastes good.
DO NOT do desert or drink alcohol, save these for when you are closer to your weight loss goals. I love my wine but i love hitting weight-loss goals more, think about that.
The best thing to do when traveling for business is to just be prepared. If you are not prepared, you will fail and get off track your weight loss goals. Now if you are going on vacation that is a different story, hopefully you have hit some of your weight loss goals and can enjoy yourself a bit.
